Program Description
Data Science and Big Data Technology is a newly emerging interdisciplinary of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics and Statistics. The courses are mainly involved with how to use the Computer Technology, Artificial Intelligence method and Statistics theory to solve Big Data intelligent analysis, processing and decision-making problems in industrial applications. The objective of the major is to cultivate application-oriented and international senior data talents which have international vision, communication ability, and master basic theory of Data Science, Big Data Technology and basic skills of Artificial Intelligence, can be engaged in the management, analysis, research and development in relevant departments of Big Data Industry.
Strong Academic Team
The Department of Big Data has over thirty academic staff with rich industry and research experience. More than 90% of full-time teachers have PhD degrees, and 75% have long-term overseas teaching or working experience in English.

Dr. Xiangxing Tao, Dean of school of science and big data science, Professor He received his doctor degree in the Department of Mathematics, Zhejiang University in 1998. In 1990, he held the position of the director of math department and deputy dean of the faculty of science in Ningbo University. From 2002 to 2009, he successively held postdoctoral research positions at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Canada, and worked as a visiting scholar at the National Mathematics Research Center of Peking University, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy, the National Central University of Taiwan, the Wayne State University (WSU) in USA. Since 2010, he has been working at ZUST, as dean of the School of Science at present. |

Dr Yaguan Qian, Associate Professor.He received the M.Sc. degree and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Zhejiang University in 2005 and 2014 respectively. He is currently an associate professor of School of Science and Big Data Science in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. His research interests include Machine Learning, Data Mining, Internet traffic modeling, traffic classification and traffic anomaly detection |

Dr Shuhui Wu, Associate Professor. She received her Ph.D. at London Metropolitan University (UK), I worked there for one year. From 2010 onwards I work at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology

Dr. Wei Li, Associate Professor. In January 2008, after received her Ph.D. under the supervision of Professor Yunqing Huang at Xiangtan University, Li Wei was appointed as Lecturer in Department of Mathematics, School of Science, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, Hangzhou, China. |

Dr. Ying Shi received her Ph.D. in 2014 under the supervision of Professor Dajun Zhang at Shanghai University. In 2012, she obtained the State Scholarship Fund organized by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), for Joint Ph.D. candidate programme at the University of Glasgow (Sep.2012 - Jan.2014, under the supervision of Professor Jonathan J C Nimmo). Her research interests lies in Mathematical Physics with emphasis on integrable systems and soliton theory. |

Dr. Weidong YIN received his Ph.D. in 2010 from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and he received his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Science and Technology of China, 2004. He has more than nine years teaching experience in basic mathematics. |

Dr. Ninghua Gao received her Ph.D. in 2017, under the supervision of Professor Qingguo Li at College of Mathematics and Econometrics, Hunan University. She worked at School of Science, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology From 2017. |

Dr. Junjuan Hu received her Ph.D. in 2017 from Zhejiang GongShang university, After obtaining her master's degree under the supervision of Professor Suzhonggen at Department of Statistics in Zhejiang University she makes further research on statistics. From 2001 onwards, she worked in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. |

Dr.Qiong Lou received her Ph.D. in 2014 under the supervision of Professor Dexing Kong and Fangyang Zheng at Zhejiang University, She was appointed as Lecturer in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology in 2014. |

Dr. Qinxiu Sun Associate Professor After obtaining Ph.D. at Zhejiang University, Sun worked in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. She obtained two National Natural Science Foundations and one Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province and Obtained the honorary title of Youth Talent of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. She had a promotion to associate professor in 2013.

Dr. Min Wu. Associate Professor. After obtaining her PhD under the supervision of Professor Wang Xinghua at Zhejiang University in July 2008, Wu Min began to do some teaching and scientific research work related Mathematics in the School of Science in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology |

Dr. Qiquan Fang. Associate Professor. He finished his joined Study of Master and Doctoral Degree in Mathematics, Hunan Normal University from 2006 to 2011. He worked in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology from 2011, and staying in UCF for one year as a visiting scholar from 2014 to 2015. |

After four years of study in Data Science and Big Data Technology, Most students can start their career in the following three directions:
1. Big data development direction; the occupations involved are: big data engineer, big data maintenance engineer, big data R & D engineer, big data architect, etc .;
2. Data mining, data analysis, and machine learning; the occupations involved are: big data analysts, big data senior engineers, big data analyst experts, big data miners, big data algorithm engineers, etc .;
3. Big data operation and maintenance and cloud computing direction; corresponding positions: big data operation and maintenance engineer;
The other graduates continue to pursue postgraduate studies, in universities around China and overseas e.g. in Canada. Their excellent academic performance and extra-curriculum activity gives them an overwhelming advantage in scholarship applications. Many graduates proceed to pursue master’s degree at our own school with familiar supervisors.
